I just had a lucky escape with oil over the weekend, from Bristol to Donington and back the engine managed to slurp through 1 1/2 litre’s of Silkoline’s finest. Took the undertray of today and luckily it was dripping from the sump plug (which was only removed 2 weeks ago for a C service by a well known specialist) fixed that and noticed that the said specialist had also left the wheel speed sensor unclipped causing the wheel to lunch the wiring as well.
Have they been able to resolve things to your satisfaction?
If they have, great - fancy telling us who it was?
If they haven’t and aren’t going to, name and shame.
Haven’t spoken to them yet and when I was under the car noticed that they haven’t installed the rear toe link kit properly either (thread in known problems). Will get on to them today probably.

So that’s 3 pretty serious things they did wrong…you should definitely name them, I’m not saying that you have to slag them off, just let the facts speak for themselves…
My S1 Elise 111S used almost 1 litre (fully synth 5/w30) on 600 mile round trip to Suffolk via Hethel from Lancashire. Mostly motorway at 80/90mph.
No visible signs of oil use: no blue clouds, no obvious leaks. Taking it back to person who changed cambelt and did other work on it,next week hopefully. Sounds like compression test will lead to further expensive work
Have them check the value stem seals…not sure that would show on a compression test?
The head was rebuilt at time of cambelt change, at least with new exhaust valves . . . new long bolts, head gasket and steel dowels. Do you think the top-end re-furb has caused a problem lower down? I’d be grateful for any thoughts.
I only mention the valve stem seals as that was the cause of my oil useage - and the symptoms are the same…
Thanks, Steve. I’m trying to get it booked in next week . . . .
