Toyota Elise/Exige subframes are different to the Europa/VX220 ones unfortunatly. Also the Europa/VX is 28mm, I think, longer wheelbase, which is all achieved by extending the rear subframe and wishbone pickups.
Haven’t tried the Exige subframe on a Europa, but have on a VX. Its fits great, right upto the point that you refit the engine/gearbox, where the older 5 speed gearbox fouled the rear most crossmember on the Exige. The Europa gearbox is a different shape, but equally large around the diff area. 'Tis a shame really!!
Thread revival… Looking at pics of the subframe, I can see the subframe cross member that would interfere with the diff casing. Can you remember if that would require complete removal of cross-member, or did it look feasible to modify and re-inforce?
Also, do you know if the standard passenger side mount and front torque mount would fit the S2 Exige chassis?
To be honest, as soon as it didn’t fit, it was a bit of a non starter, so didn’t look any further. I’m sure you can make it fit, but needs more than just chopping out a bit here and there.
The front torque mount onto the chassis fits all the cars - we use them on the Audi conversions. Just not sure about the positioning left to right.
Passenger mount, probably not. They are quite specific as they drop down into a hole that isn’t there on the Exige chassis. It’s about where the extra length is situated.
Cheers for the replies JDS. I had originally assumed some commonality between side engine mountings (between VX220 / Europa and Toyota Loti), but as you say, they are different.
The VX220 mount is just a single bolt connected from underneath, where as the Toyota Elise is a multi bolt arrangement. I did wonder if it was as simple as installing a hole (ahem) in the Lotus chassis (assuming the chassis member had the same thinkness and strength) to replicate the VX220 mounting design. The same would be required for the other side (assuming use of a GM Ecotec engine).
