Turbo conversion

Henry,
Is that the one that broke at Folembray?
I know what you mean, but I can get the audi engine (in stock 265 bhp format) in and running in the car for only a few k more than just an audi gearbox conversion. If I want to go further it starts to be not cost effective to stick with the toyota - plus there’s fun in modifying aspect that does appeal to me.

Agreed that it maybe doesn’t make sense to make the jump to the tfsi as opposed to the old 1.8t which is tried and tested.

My concern is really getting a suitable gearbox option that is definitely up to the challenge but also has a nice action. Am not too impressed with the feel of the toyota gearbox in standard form.

I’d appreciate suggestions on how to improve it. People have mentioned improved linkages, but I don’t knwo where to start looking. It’s one of the main reasons I am looking at the audi and that’s before considering the longevity of the stock gearbox when used on track.

If the E153 gearbox you are referring to is the MR2 box, people keep telling me the ratios are just not suited to cars with less power than yours.
I’ve spoken with Bernard about the Audi gearbox and it seems it will require someone with the R$D bucks to make it happen…Radium say they will be working on a Audi gearbox conversion in the near future but again things only happen if there is profit in it…

Those putting down the Toyota E153 are only those tryin to sell ya something else… If you make over 200 ft tq the E153 will do the job. It worked in the MR2 Turbo and All-track with 200 bhp.
So if you have only 300 whp why would the gearing be wrong now and not 16 yrs. ago.

All those chumps puttin down my setup are still to smart to challange it on track… Shifting gears is highly overrated…

I haven’t looked at the ratios for myself, is there a. Comparison table somewhere?

I take it, it’s a 5 speed? Did used to drive an mr2 turbo and I remember the box being very nice.

Jsracing already have the Audi gearbox conversion on the cards and I think ready to pull the trigger if there’s demand, but I don’t see why I should convert when it’s not such a big deal to throw in its native engine at the same time.

It was the bolt that joined the end of one of the cables to the Letsla mechanism. Now replaced with go faster bolts !!!
