As Simon isn’t allowed to post on here I’ll crosspost his comments from SELOC.
Just a short note to say thanks to all involved, the level of help and just people being supportive is what makes the weekend for me.
Personally probably had the worst race I could have imaginged (short of crashing it!).
Car was going well in pre-race qualifing and night practice, we have a few niggles but nothing serious.
Race started well, Chris soon got up to 5th fighting got 4th place with Nigel Greensal, all was looking good until lap 30, comming though Bridge, the centre lock nut on the left rear stripped it’s threads and made it’s bid for freedom, shortly followed by the wheel! - this left the car stranded in the gravel.
Car got recovered, and the team changed the upright, wheel, etc. and sent it back out with Nick, (by this time it was lap 55 for the leaders - we had lost some 60 minutes and 25 laps).
Pitted on lap 98 - and I got in it, did not last long though, Lap 132 I pited with a vibration, team could not stopt anything obvious, so I went out again, it got much worse, and as I was comming back in again, the left rear wheel came off in the pit lane entrance stranding me just ahead of the pit lane!
This time the drive flange had sheared all the bolts and then in it’s bit for freedom, the wheel sheared the upright.
Was begining to wonder if I had entered a Reliant Regal instread of a ProSport…
We re-joined ~ lap 160 - not sure exactly as out transponder decided to die! (not sure how many laps before MST realised and sent us down a replacement)
we then had several niggling issues like the throttle sticking open (causeing me to take to the grass, and subsiquently boling all the water out the engine), then in the morning, whist Nick was out, he lost the wheel again at the end of Hanger going into stowe, this time it had sheared the bolts again, and taken the brake disk with it.
having lost faith in the bolts, we then welded the flanges together, and sent Chris back out.
it was getting to be a test just to see if we could get the car to the finnish.
we had to get recoved from the track again when the fuel rail suffered massive vapour lock, brought on by the roll-over valve sticking and pressuring the tank to something stupid - enough to sheer all the rivets in the tank houseing!
at the end, Nick was just limping round, we new the rear wheel bearins were in trouble, but as we had welded the flanes up, we could not change them and we had run out of uprights.
At the end of the day, we were lucky to finnish, has to be the hardest weekend I have ever had.
A big thanks to all who we scrounged stuff off, all the team, etc etc.
PS. to be classified you have to be there at the end - as in take the flag, so we were 33’rd.
