AAARRRRGGGHHHH
Ferkin insurance companies!!!
Had to spend 3 hours being interviewed by an insurance investigator earlier this week. Booked the apointment as a loss adjuster but he was just a fraud investigator looking for a way not to pay.
They havent validated the claim yet and say they wont until they have all the keys and documents etc.
I pointed out that if i send all my stuff and they loose it, then they say they wont pay, then my bike turns up im stuffed, there answer tough shit pal we are the insurers.
Then to top it all they wont do anything until they get the v5 and I need to Send it to dvla to remove my cherished number.
WARNING
DO NOT USE ZENITH AS INSURERS!!!
I am so very pissed off right now, even worse than the bike being stolen…
Sorry to hear they’re giving you a hard time, but hang on in there and go with it.
A few years ago I had a lot of the same hassles with a car write-off - keys, docs, so-called loss adjuster, etc. I had a receipt made out and made them sign for everything so they couldn’t come up with any further excuses (which was important for me, anyway…).
Sadly this has all become necessary because of the minority of w*nkers who think it’s cool to rip off their insurers. Yes, that industry has far too much power and that needs curtailing…but that’s another rant, lol!
Hold out for what you expect from them - gather as much solid evidence as you can find on values and don’t give in.
Best of luck mate!
Echo comment on value - I rejected first offer when my bike was written off and just went through some copies of MCN to work a value on my bike. With evidence presented properly the insurance company accepted the arguement and paid me what I wanted.
How do you mean evidence presented properly please? I would like to make sure I do it right!!!
Showing my age now but it was the clippings from the newspaper photocopied. Not just one or two but all bikes to my spec to be able to slot mine into a price bracket based on age, condition and mileage. I also had a file of all receipts, work done, items bought, etc, which helps justify the better than average condition I was claiming.
Pretty much the same here; a good selection of adverts showing prices for similar machines.
As your bike was a limited run, it might be worth contacting the UK importer to see if they’d give you a written valuation bearing mind mind rarity, increasingly collectible, high demand, etc.
Receipt for any additional work, parts (if relevant) but make sure your insurers don’t classify any of them as ‘modifications’…!
When I had a similar situation with a car, I held onto the V5, etc. until I was certain the insurer fully understood the vehicle’s value. Once that message had got through I had a short document drawn up that I made their representative sign before anything was handed over. He was also sent away with a wad of copies of the same value documentation.
They still tried to undervalue, but by making sure they had the paperwork (and, most importantly had signed for everything so couldn’t deny they had it) I got the full amount.
On another occasion, a bike this time, the insurer wouldn’t pay out on the replacement cost (bike was less than 24 hours old when it got written off - hit by a car salesman delivering a customer’s new car!).
They were told ‘okay you go and buy a new one for that price’. Two weeks later I had a call from a rather grumpy main dealer, requesting that I pick up a new bike before he changed his mind…
(NB. Reading this sound like I spend my life writing-off stuff; I don’t, really )
