Veeeery cool. Look forward to more feedback

So, Iā€™ve just been out for my first little drive around just to see how the AIM worksā€¦

Firstly, it looks great - Iā€™m very happy with that!

BUT - and this isnā€™t so great at the moment - the shift lights are largely obscured by the steering wheel because they sit so high in the clusterā€¦ I think I can lower the whole thing by about 10mm which might just sneak them back into a visible area, so Iā€™m going to try that first as it may be all I need to do, but thatā€™s a little unfortunate

Also, the gear readout is obviously not setup so Iā€™ll look into getting that working. Itā€™s supposed to auto-calculate based on rpm and speed, but it must not have the gear ratios set as it changes between reading out random numbers as I accelerate in just first gear, then basically says Iā€™m in 6th all the time at anything over 25mph, lol - sure itā€™s an easy fix though

Second thing I noticed when parking up again is that I had to stand and stare at the car a bit moreā€¦ It has been sat under a cover for such a long time now that I donā€™t see it as much as Iā€™d likeā€¦ Theyā€™re such a good looking car! Hereā€™s a random picture of the rear quarter - because it just looked good, lol!

I think seriouslylotus is working on a remote shift light unit to remedy that exact issue - something to sit on top of the binnacle.

Yeah, when I spoke to him he said that it would be available - I feel sure that if I lower the unit as much as possible (you can slide it up/down when mounting and I just guessed at an initial position) that itā€™ll be just about fine  Fingers-crossed anywayā€¦

Another option

Just spoke to Dave and it seems the gear indication is even easier than Iā€™d imagined to fix - just need to press a button and then drive it for a minute!

That looks fantastic :sunglasses:

seriouslylotus have shown the add on shift lights on exigesdotcom Instagram

Damn I love those wheels :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

you mean like these :lolno: get some bought

Send me all the details, Iā€™ll have a look :unamused:

I ordered mine from Driftworks.com - cost about Ā£500 all together

Front:
Japan Racing - JR Wheels JR3 16x7 ET40 4x100/114.3 Bronze

Rear:
Japan Racing - JR Wheels JR3 17x8 ET35 4x100/114.3 Bronze

Do keep in mind that I ended up with a 16mm spacer on both fronts. I expected using somewhere around 10mm to get the offset back correct, but actually ended up with 16mm to make the spokes clear the brake caliper on the front! I fitted 205 section front tyres (AD08R) and it drives fantastic on road and track. Not noticing any adverse effects from the slight change of front offset

Went to a rather sunny Donington GP day yesterday!

The car was running really really well - someone asked me about my superchargerā€¦ pah! :lolno: and someone else said that my Honda swap sounded awesome as it went past themā€¦ Both looked shocked when I said it was just the good old 2ZZ NA

Anyway, the car went so well that it actually stopped stoppingā€¦ Iā€™m pretty sure I boiled my brake fluid. The pedal felt like it went a tiny bit further on the way down to the Melbourne Hairpin, then basically went with very little resistance right down to the bottom when I went to slowdown for Goddards so I got it round the corner somehow and drove into the pit lane with very little braking effectā€¦ Iā€™ve always been late and heavy on the brakes, but Iā€™m assuming itā€™s just because my RBF660 fluid needs flushing?.. I checked the fluid and it said there was around 1% water in it, so Iā€™ll change it anyway, but I was surprised it happenedā€¦ This was after hammering it for around 20 laps. I just have the standard brake setup with Pagid RS14s

Donny is hard on brakes - in a previous life, the brakes on my Talbot Sunbeam road saloon racer were smoking due to overheating after a 20 min qualifying session there

Good stuff, 20 laps of Donny is a good stint so I reckon most braking setups would have something to say about that! Is it fair to say you got some pedal back after it all cooled down a bit?

Another picture from the dayā€¦

Oh, okay - I thought it was maybe failing a bit prematurely - good to know itā€™s not considered terribly unusualā€¦ I might try to reduce my tendency towards so much heavy braking, but those RS14 pads work so well, itā€™s a shame not to exercise them fully, lolā€¦

Yes, I let it cool down and the brakes worked just fine again - but I started to not trust them (understandably) so ended the day a bit slower than I wouldā€™ve likedā€¦ Iā€™ll get the fluid changed and see how I go again

Every time I go on a track day now, Iā€™m just thinking ā€œGah! A close ratio gearbox would be SO goooooood!!!ā€

Yeah Iā€™m not really speaking from experience as I get car sick way before 20 laps of Donny  My brakes are generally still with me at the end of my sessions (I have RS14 and ATE200 fluid) but I probably manage 20mins at the most.

It was the full GP circuit, which seems quite tough on the car versus the National circuit, so Iā€™m not terribly surprised, I supposeā€¦ Itā€™s between 1m55 and 2m per lap (for me at least, lol!) on that layout, so Iā€™d been out for quite a while - just really trying to give my engine a thorough shakedown after all the gremlins Iā€™ve had to fix with it since the dealers made a hash of itā€¦ I usually do much shorter stints, so I donā€™t suppose it would normally be an issue, but it was just so much fun! Engine temperature didnā€™t even go over 87 degrees! (until I stopped in the pits where it crept up past 94c)
