Sussed!
Damon is right Ian, European t/d’s run a little differently than UK ones…Not to be mixed up with UK operators on Euro circuits.
Anyone who has done a ‘Marc Duez’ day at Spa will know all about the differnt etiquette.
I have personally done a timed event at Hockenheim with no license, no car checks, no race gear - just given a transponder and told to get one with it!!
They can be good fun if not a little dangerous
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure he is right.
I just think that option already exists in the UK, it’s called a test day, including the ARDS licences that come with it to prove a shared level of competance.
For everybody else, there are track days with their rules and safety for the less experienced.
There’s no need to argue that one should become the other.
Ian
Wires crossed Ian, I was only confirming that euro t/d’s run a little differently to UK ones.
I personally prefer how UK t/d’s are run and yes you are right test days are where you should be if you want to get upto those type of antics, but certainly if your looking for a different angle on a track day it is worth getting out into europe.

Castle Combe Action days are dangerous.
I’ve done one of them, about 7 years ago, when I had my M Coupe, I was there with a big group of guys from BMWCCGB, and we filled the session so no nutters out there.
Unfortunately one of the guys with a Hartge converted E30 M3 (had the 6-cly M5 engine from that era) got T-boned by a knackered old Triumph Spitfire. 100% Spitfire drives fault as he admitted but still cost them a fortune to fix what was a pristine car originally.
Reminds me of the early ‘Autocar’ trackdays a ‘few’ years ago…one good reason to stay well clear
