Roofless Exige

LOL! Well the amount of water coming through the px window gap there should be fred flintstone size holes by the midsummer

Ok, scared now!

Whilst I completely agree with you, I meant more from a warranty point of view.

Ian

IDG

Its really simple if you ask me… they designed it as a hard top, but manufacturing costs and common sense meant the way they fixed the roof is the same (or at least very similar to) as the elise hard-top so… they don’t want you to take the roof off because its not an elise… so why do you think they would warranty it - not that i can see anyone climing warranty for stone chips on the cross-bar.

They just… don’t… want… you… to… take… the flippin roof off… so there !!

This afterall is 2004 not 1904 when cars are made of exotic materials not WOOD.

Kirk - i hope we can be friends and i’m sure we will be but… the fukin things made of plastic !!!

Bob VanM suggested open up the vents on the back of the front clam (just in front of the door) and duct some air to the foot wells… Seems like a plan to me

Rl

WTF kinda drugz you on man… why don’t you get yerself a MGTF and be done with it…

exactly how on our dear Lords earth will opening up these vents help you duct air into the cabin to cool yer fryin feet you can’t be serious man…

now who else can i fall out with… hey Bruno ya old swiss cheese…

Roxxy M8, I have no probs with any thing you have said or anyone else on here(Even old pesky, cant wait to meat you m8, Just dont exspect me to be first to the bar ) Roxxy arent they all made of plastic. As my Uncle Jim Clark used to say (some men are born to win And some to loss, Just not scotsmen )

cheers Kirk - yeh they are all plastic but it was just the exotic materials comment i was having a go at … me i’d rather have organic…

BTW - i saw you at KH on Sat and you looked to be going pretty well even tho it was a bit splashy out there…

You try telling that to the bloke with the red flag in front of my car

And also to those chappies in Malvern

I bet you’re a pussy and have Air Con??? No air con here so I just want someway to cool my feet… Is that too much to ask? 340R’s have a tube thingy so why not us?

Oh and Bob VanM is Dutch so don’t ask about the drugs LOL!

Was going round like a bit of a pussy at first (I HAVE AIRCON) and then started to get a feel for the 048s and started to go for it a bit more as the track tryed out but still only doing 68s69s a lap. However KH last night was very wet with quite large runs off water going acroos the track but it was a true eye opener as to how much water the 048s/Exige could handle after the first hour just started playin with the car as there was only 4-5 cars on track at one time so you could slide it about a bit more I have to admit that the S2 Exige seems a lot more cable on track than a standerd VXT. Will have to wait till I get a totaly dry circit and see if I can beat my best KH time of 61.46s.

Hi y’all:

Well, first of all, let me ask you a question, because information seems a little confusing, specially this side of the atlantic (I live in Portugal)…

Does the S2 Exige come with a removable Hard Top? You can actually drive an S2 Exige with anything between between you and the sky?

If the answer is Yes, then concerning the comments made above, I have to agree that I like the idea of having the choice to drive without the roof.

I believe it’s good to have choices, and this should be one more.

Of course the performance isn’t as good as with the roof on, but hey… we aren’t allways on track, and it certainly feels good to drive open wheels, when you’re just going to the grocery, and trodle along the city traffic, or take a coastal road, Cote d’Azur style (and yes… we have them plenty and we have them good).

I don’t think it’s a loss of purity, it’s evolution. And evolution brings choices. When driving hard, stick the hardtop on, and here we go…

Of course, all this speach doesn’t apply if the answer to my first question is No…

I was talking to an engineer from Lotus recently. He said the aerodynamics had been set up with the roof on, so they really don’t know how the car handles without the hard top in place, but there’s no real reason why you can’t cruise around on the road without it.
I’ve been pretty vocal around here about how the S2 is a worthy (if slightly disappointing) successor, but a thought struck me recently: The idea of taking the roof off an S1 offends me. It’s just not appropriate for this car. However, taking the roof off the S2 seems like the most natural thing to do when you take it out for a spin on a nice summer’s day.

  1. you can here the engine much better.
  2. you are much more aware of everything around you and can become much more at one with the car.

I wear earplugs normally! I find that I drive better when noise is reduced to a minimum (go figure)

Interesting thought, I can see that. It does help define the difference between the two and perhaps you’re suggesting that Elise Coupe would fit better? One of each does rather appeal.

Ian

I still wouldn’t go quite as far as calling it an Elise coupe. The amazing handling, and more aggresive looks distinguish it sufficiently from the Elise for me to consider it a distinct model, but maybe it’s not really an Exige as such. Perhaps it’s an Elige?

I learned yesterday at the motorshow that they originally designed the car with a “huge” “whale tail” of a wing on the back, but the type approval people dismissed it on pedestrian safety grounds

Has anybody got any good pics of the orange one at the motorshow? I love the stripes: combined with that colour they certainly add a useful bit of agression to the look of the car.

I believe the one at the motor show is actualy a Safron yellow,The colour which I have Ok fitted the soft top today and it works just like the S2 and did not seem to make a huge difference to the car. I will admit it that the car is not as good looking with it on,But looks pretty cool with it off. oh and you have much more head room now

I know Bob VanM and reckon youd need to have just come from a coffee shop to understand exactly how the hairoil you can make those vents cool yer feet… my soluion is to drive in yer socks…

as for conair… nice movie but i’m more hardcore than that sonny…

mmmm… tube thingy… why can’t we have one… well i won’t comment on that one

Kirk

did that come with it ??

Nah, surely the Elise at the other end of the stand was in saffron yellow? It looked a completely different colour. Of course it’s bloody hard to work out colours properly under those motorshow lights…

Hey Kirk, I want to see a new Exige in Saffron. Any chance of you bringing it down here for me to see it
Maybe doing a track day at Donington in the near future? I’m pretty close to Donny.
