Fret not Bernard, you’ll see soon graphs, of my engine and the few others that are beng built right now.
I can’t wait to see what it looks like!

And guys, may I introduce you to Jim Valentine?
He’s the guy that is building the evolutionary exhaust system, soon to be tested in my car.

Welcome Jim, we hope to see some more posts from you here.

Simon,

I’ve spoken to Steve briefly earlier, and will consider an aluminium flywheel when one is available, if I am convinced it is better than what can be achieved with a modified standard one for our application.

I’ve re-visited the whole long bolt issue and basically came to the conclusion that I can’t see any advantage or on the flipside any real disadvantage in using the bolts I have, they have a thicker shank through the most part and then nicely taper down to the standard sized thread, however the weakest part is always going to be the minor diameter of the threaded section, assuming both the bolts I have and the standard ones are of the same tensile strength material and quality there should be no difference in clamping load or durability, maybe I should have gone for a reduced shank diameter to save some weight instead? At the end of the day they where an impulse buy and as soon as I’d bought them I mulled it over with a friend as to how they could possibly be any better than the originals, I couldn’t figure it out then and still can’t now, I await educating on this point from anyone with more knowledge or insight than myself (I genuinely would like to have a better understanding of this).

The block, I’m sticking with, if I’m wrong, I’m wrong and will have wasted some money and potential power, as has been said before though, science and theory are great and should always work in an ideal environment, however in the cases the environment isn’t ideal and controlled, brute force and ignorance can play it’s role.

Thanks for the comments and insight so far, I look forward to reading both the revised article and the book and wish you all the best with the emerging engines, one thing we definitely agree on is that the K is potentially very, very good and will hopefully have a bright future.

Cheers

Neil

“Emperil” Nice word, that. I must remember it

Imperil

Doesn’t that mean that both spellings are equally valid?

implausible / emplausible

Doesn’t that mean that both spellings are equally valid?

I’m with you, if it was wrong, it wouldn’t be there on the first page. It even has a pronunciation, but they point to the more used one for the whole story.

Excuse the ignorance, but what does EDL stand for?

VHPD versus EDL ???

Or might he be referring to a BTCC engine that is perhaps rebuilt completely after every race ??

We need a new thread !!!

I still think we need some sort of direct comparison of the various engine packages. Who is up for going to a track somewhere and doing a proper test?? Uldis - when will your car be finished and would you up for doing a head to head?? would be very interesting to get a true performance comparison.

Aaaarrgghhh! I want to be on the track!

NOW!

At least I went on Saturday to do a karting endurance race. I was afraid of the stitches but they held well.

And we won (Stu(MutsNuts) and me)

And… ah, yes, when is my car ready? there have been some delay with the alloy flywheel and I’m looking to have the engine back around the 8th.

The only trackday that I have booked is the Nordshleife (11-12 Nov), but would not be a good comparison because I’ve never been there.
Yes, I wouldn’t mind a head to head, will try to find out when though.
At least the results from Emerald should tell a story, and at least that would be before the 11 Nov.

I’m quite tempted with the Nurburgring in November, that could be lots of fun. Maybe a few of us could go down in convoy so we can get a good alround comparison of the different cars?? I’ve only ever done one lap there so things should be very even.

Also, when are you going to Emerald…I may take a trip there myself at some point.

Guys,

Unlike me to sound like a grand dad here but the Nurburgring is hardly the place to test out that kinda stuff surely? I’m assuming it’s the 14.5 mile circuit…

If it is then personally even after 100 laps I’d be a bit steady round there, I’ve done 5 and that was bearly scratching the surface of the complexity of it all! And with armco that close there’s just no room for error at all!

The small one may be better but not been round there

In fact, at the Ring I will not really pushing it.
Not more than a local B road run, which I mean is swift but by no means exploring the limits.
We should nevertheless get an idea of the tractability and smoothness of the engine, and top speed at least (that’s easy)

Anyway, mentioned because it’d be nice to go several of us.

Now, we still need to go to a proper (smaller) track
I had booked twice already Emerald, but will need to re-schedule.
Will let you know soon when is the mapping session.

Cheers Mr Pesky!

GT4 on teh PS2 is due mid-Dec, so you’ll then be able to practice the Ring. Sounds like a good plan to me!
