I’m going to take Steve and Gavin’s advice much against my inclination and stop waisting my time on this site with people who will not listen or think about what is being written. I hope in due course owners will post and post graphs of engines so that those interested can see for themselves. Otherwise, anyone genuinely interested can get in touch with my by email, included in the second post on this site.
Simon
For me at least this would be very sad…
I can deal with you personally and using email but would never be able to provoke the information from you that can be had with others contributing… I am almost 100% certain that many people have read this thread and I bet most of them are listening and thinking about what has been written in a very positive way. I certainly think that Vibration Free will owe you a few pints down the pub that’s for sure…
It’s always the militant few who speak loudest… there are plenty proverbs relating to this issue !! we all know a few…
You are right insofar as the arguments, at the moment, are becoming very circular but I hope you continue to contribute thoughts and advice to those of us on this site who have learned a lot from you. This happens best when you strike down challenges from other more vehement guests… however unwelcome their attention. For the record what pisses me off with these people is that they never came round here beforehand but now… mmmm… strange…
We can all spot some flaws in the arguments that almost everyone here has laid forth but, as RL says, when folk pick up on the small irrelevant details and flog them to death… well… that says more about them than it does about the person making the original mistake…
I hope you don’t write us off and that we continue to hear interesting and thought provoking advice from you posted up HERE on this board.
chin up, stiff upper lip and all that… remember “if they don’t like it they can @#& OFF”
I’m the 190bhp on a hot day (Martin) that Uldis refers to above and couldn’t agree more with all of that post, including why I don’t normally bother.
Why are we Lotus drivers if it’s just about extreme power? It seems to me that 200-220 compliments the Lotus very nicely & Simon is simply helping us to achieve sweet and reliable (within reason) engines that do this & also give a great torque spread (see my earlier post) without completely re-engineering the car.
Having owned plenty more powerful cars I now enjoy the same pleasure that Uldis describes but of course it’s not what everyone wants. That’s not meant as a criticism (see, I’m getting the hang of this), just an observation - some days I too like a big fat gob of turbo torque or the delivery of my 4.6 V8 daily driver, but on a track, in an Elise, my K just feels right.
Looking forward to the results of your build Uldis - keep us posted.
Simon, I’m another one who would be sad to see this BBS lose your input. It seems to me that it should be obvious to anybody that the K is not desperately inadeqate, and that with a few improvements it can make a perfectly suitable motor for a lightweight car like the Exige. I can see the appeal of going down the Honda/Audi route, but only if you’re chasing mega power, not if you’re going to leave the engine in standard form. But then 10 grand is a lot to spend as a starting point…
I personally intend to look into rebuilding, blueprinting, etc when my financial situation allows it. I’m definately looking forward to the coming months to see how Uldis etc get on.
Agree with all the above Have faith, these lot can bea tough bunch… If you’ve seen “Jay and Silent Bob stike back” then you’ll know the internet is a place for people to sl@g one another off in a nice annomyous way LOL!
Anyway, reliability smerliability! The gym where my mate works had a guy with a 911 Carrera 4… Posche make the most bullet proof engines in the world don’t cha know! German engineering and all that… What’s all the engine oil doing on the car park underneath it then? Oh, it’s dropped a rob and put it through the block
We have no control over this world, we can just diminish possibilities, you could get a fully blueprinted Honda K20 with a rev limiter set to 3000rpm and it could blow when you turn the key
Rox, I really couldn’t have put it any better…some really agressive one’s just popped in here (bit like Scuffer style)
which was banned …
would be a real shame Simon not using this board anymore
these kind of people will bugger off after a while, they don’t use this board in general…just ignore them like we all do
laters,
B
