That’ll shift.

I don’t see the cage yet?

Thanks Dave

these foto diaries are always a big interest… keep em coming

Those Pilbeam wishbones and hub-carriers don’t half look meaty… that’s the first time I think i’ve seen them… mega.

Looking good - can I ask why the upper wishbone outer mounting ring appears to be at such an angle to both the wishbone and the mounting bolt?

That’s at full droop Steve. It is a simialr angle to the Lotus setup.

Cheers Dave…can I have a supplementary silly question - what are the two/three brackets with the circular holes in on the lower wishbone just behind the upright?

Any initial thoughts on both the Pilbeam and the AP bits (are they the 3000 series…on a small laptop so not sure if its a 3 or a 5 on the calipers?)

You’re not going to like this one…the holes are lower shock mount and anti-roll bar mount as per normal wish bones.

They are AP 5000. Will get back to you once it is on the track. I’m not going to judge the stuff any other way.

well I said it was a silly question!

Fair comment - look forward to hearing about them

Just wanted to let you all know that Simon Erland has pissed me off so much that I will not be continuing this thread. Sad really. BTW, I had a lot of problems with the Pilbeam suspension. Many things did not fit. I contacted Mike Pilbeam and explained the problems in detail 2 weeks ago and told him that the car needed to be ready for a 6hour race on 11th November. I have not heard back nor have I seen the parts he promised. I have now had to fabricate parts myself to make the suspension fit. If anyone is considering this suspension…do some reasearch first.

That’s all. Bye.

Dave

sorry to hear you have had problems with the Pilbeam bits. It would have been interesting to follow your build progress on this, as they have a reputation for quality bits.

Even sadder if you leave the forum for the reasons you have given. Exiges is quite a broad church and there has always been room for a quite a wide variation in opinions and beliefs. For me, that is one of its strengths, and as long as people agree to disagree in a civil manner I hope it will continue.

I hope you will reconsider, as I’m sure you would add to the forum and equally find it a great source for info yourself.

Seconded

Wonder why the front wheel has been catching the chassis on the n/s front

Agree completely … its very sad for Exiges.com … this would have been very interesting for those wanting to go with Honda to see some details … I would have hoped we here are mature enough and “petrolheaded” enough to appreciate that there are many methods to achieve a goal and accept them.

I hope you have a change of heart Dave and ignore the “noise” that goes on around here recently.

See how I feel tomorrow.

Here’s one more teaser… car will be finished on Monday.

I like the mobile phone holder

I like the mobile phone holder

lol…could that be the equivalent to the Maclaren F1 modem?

Mike Pilbeam has offered to replace the parts that I had problems with but not in time for the race in 2 weeks. I will run with the parts we have made and fit the Pilbeam replacements after the 6hr race and report back. Overall the parts are very nice, I just didn’t expect to have these sorts of problems. To be fair this kit is a new one and seems I am the first person to fully assemble it on an Elise/Exige.

Interesting to know that they are still developing the kit - I don’t know of many who have gone for it, but only because of the expense, so there must obviously be a viable market there right at the top end.

Do you know what the changes were from the earlier kit, or is it more a sort of evolution that clear revisons?

Mine is running bigger brakes than the original and they had to design new uprights the cope with these. The bearings are bigger and set higher in the upright to allow for correct wishbone angle at 70mm ride height. The have also tweaked the suspension geometry and fitted 0 Ackerman steering arms.
