My S1 Elige S Build...hopefully 480bhp/ton.....assembly mode

Sorry to hear this Lee. Hope you’re okay and the car’s not too bad.

Shame, hope car’s not too badly damaged and you 're OK

Lee, likewise I do hope you are ok and the car is fixable… :open_mouth:

Good luck Lee. Fingers crossed that its cosmetic damage only…

Sure the car looked a bit forlorn sitting on its trailer in the pits,…but it did not look out of place at all amongst the mental cars running in TA. Credit to you given your budget vs most of the other cars.

Our fave was the Scooby doing the drift demo,…awesome car and driving :sunglasses:

Still in the process of fixing the damage at the moment.

Picking up a new front clam next weekend and a new motorsport chin spoiler one night in the week, since there are potentially new aero restrictions coming in next year I need to maximise the car to regs if I have any chance of keeping up with 550bhp rx7s

Most of it was cosmetic damage, but the one bit that annoyed me more than anything else was when the splitter impacted into the barrier it ripped sideways and as such ripped a chunk out of the crash structure.

So tonight I bonded and bolted a 3mm pure panel to the inside of the crash structure, made a mould of a 90 degree angle for the bottom, then put 5mm worth of carbon and kevlar on the outside, effectively rebuilding it all, its really cold at the moment so will probably take about 3 days to dry and set and then i will have to trim it down to the right shape but it should be stronger than it was before.

The next regs will be out at the end of next week I hope so then I can start to rebuild the rest of the car

Shame on the damage, but good effort getting it out there.

Be aware that making the crash structure super strong is good for aero loads, but they’re meant to collapse in a designed way, and save your chassis from damage.

all done, much stronger than before, just need to ake a splitter for it

dusting myself off, an old saying, no point crying over split carbon

good to see you bouncing back

Bit of work today,

Trimmed my new front clam, so headlight, indicator, rear vents, excess lip on wheel arches and area around windscreen, then drilled on bolted the chin spoiler to it.

Not much ground clearance at the current ride height!

Also trimmed some off the diffuser to meet new regulations, tomorrow i will make new end fences for the diffuser to get it down to 40mm ground clearance, since its getting more restrictive im going to have to make max use of any opportunity to pull back what ive lost.

Also made a new roof, the old one was both sides glued together which weighed 8kg, this one is just the top side but with a panel glued on to allow the roof scoop to work properly, brings the weight down to 4kg, so a nice saving at the highest point on the car to help with centre of gravity

made a start on the new aero package for the front end.

Bought a sheet of dibond to use as a mould to make the carbon/nomex splitter, also adding something special to the front end for downforce which hasnt been yet done in the uk which im looking forward to, I might get some abuse from the purests but its been proven to work.

If by purists, you mean the lotus purists, then I wouldn’t worry, you were already getting abuse from those guys. haha. Good luck with your project matey.

Are fan cars and full side skirts allowed?

There is no rule against using fans to effect aerodynamics, but there is a minimum 40mm ground clearance when the car is static so unless you have dual stage suspension then its going to be very hard to do.

Im going to have to maximise the aero regs as even though my car looked fairly extreme I wasnt maximising what I could do, while i will loose a bit of splitter depth and surface area im hoping everything else begin optimised will pull that back.

Picked up 20metres of carbon fibre tonight so i can start resin infusing my splitter panel

new rear wing turned today, need to wait till january to fit it as I need to use the bender at work to modify the the upright width.

What do you do when you have 2 dual element wings and one vehicle, hopefully over xmas I will show you

…the world’s first Exige-based biplane

Hmmm I think I can see where this is going…

looking at mightmouse crx will tell you what im going to do

continued work on the carbon splitter

taped up all the holes

laid 4 layers of carbon

Just need to bag and vac it down now and send the resin through it and im 50% complete, do the same again then bond them together with nomex

new side skirts made, will make longer vertical wear strips down to 40mm from the ground once i have the final chassis ride height sorted(which i think is going to be 85/115)

painted and mounted both sides, rain stopped any further play

Pulled the carbon panel from the mould, was a little dry in some areas so added some extra resin and will leave overnight, tomorrow i will start on the second piece to make the splitter sandwich

OK I see where you’re going Lee! You gonna be ready for a shakedown in April

This will be the mod that renders it unusable on the road though huh?

i should have all my aero done within the next 2 weeks all being well, so im hopeful to have the car ready for track by the start of february.

wont affect road use as i will attach a rod inside the splitter that the wings can be slide from 0mm to 300mm from the bodywork giving me choice of downforce levels and sliding them will make it better for the road and loading on the trailer

second piece came out of the mould, much better this time with no dry spots

also resin infused a piece of kevlar to stick on the leading edge of the splitter to handle some of the abuse of scrapping
