Motor show

IIRC planned production for the Europa is around 600 cars - makes you wonder why they’re even bothering.

Isn’t that alot of cars to a company like Lotus?

We’d never have had the Exige if there was a larger number?

Maybe when the VXT engines are all gone, they’ll replace it with a federalised version & call it the S2

I must say the Europa is not as bad as I first thought…Wouldn’t have one though.

I like the Europa but I just don’t quite see the point of it. I’m not sure why anybody would choose it over an Elise.

Went to the motor show yesterday, and I must say I was most impressed .

Most of all by Lotus (naturally), but not because of the Europa, which actually looks half decent in the flesh , the thing that impressed me the most was how friendly Lotus are, I spent the best part of 2 hours talking to one bloke on the Lotus stand, really nice, friendly guy who came up with some rather interesting answers about the Europa: firstly, they didnt make it a 2+2 due purely to the costs involved in re-manufacturing the chassis, although their official line is that a modern Lotus means a 2 seater sports car, and we felt that this configuration would be fit our ethos or some crap like that. Theyre also planning to make much more than 600, and I recon theyre going to need to people there seemed to love it .

Other than Lotus, we spent most of our time outside at BMW, but this was mainly due to the very cool racing yacht, as opposed their stand which in itself was very swish indeed .

Overall, I was very much impressed with the whole event, but its worth heading down towards the evening if you do go, we spent the entire day there and it was much much emptier in the evening, which also means that the queues for things like the 4x4 trek thing are justifiable at around 20mins.

Also, well done to AndyK for giving his spare tickets away, whoever gets them shall not be disappointed .

First press review I’ve read of the Europa and its not good timesonline

I think this probs best sums it up Lotuses are lightweight, hard core, simple, technologically advanced and absolutely brilliant to drive. Except this one .

Its a shame, because even though Ive never liked the Europa, Id like to at least think that other people could, or even that is was still a good car .
