Tom does this mean that until they have checked the tub you still do not know whether its repairable?
I would have thought that there are reference points on the tub that could be jigged or measured to tell whether its bent or twisted rather than have to rebuild and measure?
From what I was told on the phone, they rebuild the suspension, set the geometry up and then check the tub for twisting etc. I thought the same as you, what they’re doing sounds like an arse about tit way of doing things, surely it would be a lot simpler to use a jig and then just say “Yes or No” rather than spend 2 weeks assembling the suspension to possibly turnaround and say “sorry but the tub is knackered we’re righting it off!”
Oh well, it’s in their hands, just wish I could hurry them up and get my car back.
WALOB. If you want to test a tub to see if it’s straight then put it on a jig or a flat bed. Checking from the suspension will tell you very little. I wouldn’t let it worry you though as if it were bent it would be noticable by eye.
I agree if you cant see it then running your hand over the area usually tells you if there is any uneveness…however…if that’s what they are doing then that’s what they are doing…fingers crossed for you and hope that it gets put back together as a blueprinted car rather than a production line one so that you end up better off!
Thanks for all the encouraging remarks guys!! I went go-karting last Saturday for the first time ever in my life. It was absolutely the best thing I have ever done. i want my car back now to have a go at the big stuff!! Bring it on and hurry up Lotus. I can’t wait much longer, might even pay to have a go in someone elses car first!!
