Jez… if you still have the red tag (I don’t with mine!) and it’s a problem with the key going out of sync with the alarm and/or immobiliser (rather than them going out of sync with each-other) then you SHOULD be able to re-programme the keys. Which should be just fine.
You’ve never used the alarm? You’re a braver man than I! Mind you, in New Zealand, you need it more than you do in the UK.
Yes, this thread of mine on SELOC will tell you exactly what you need to know but probably don’t want to hear!
The bad news is that because Lotus omitted (or chose) not to fit the hard wired immobiliser socket (that can be operated by a transponder tag)- a key part of the M36T2/M99T2 system - then it is impossible to re-pair the alarm and immobiliser if they go out of sync (usually following deep battery discharge). The good news is that a replacement alarm/immobiliser system is available at reasonable cost from places like Abacus and is quite easy to fit (if not a little un-nerving as once the new wires are cut, they are for obvious reasons completely unmarked!!)
Better still, the new system can be installed with the transponder key socket too so you will never face the same problem again!
Grab a coffee, read through the old thread on SELOC and drop me a PM if you need any extra help
