Heatsoak under normal road driving?
Two other things to note about increases in performance with a new cooler.

After a year or so of use, if you blow compressed air through the intercooler core from the engine bay, you get a surprising amount of dust, salt, pollen, grass, leaves, small children, etc out of the front of the roof scoop.

You will also find that the inside of the cooler core will get coated in oil from the breather. This makes a great insulator for all the hot air passing through it.

A new core doesn’t have either of these, so an instant increase in cooling is gained.
The full scoop on the 240 etc now has mesh at the front to stop bigger stuff getting in

Agree with JDS. When I removed the original Lotus intercooler to fit the RLS there was quite an oil film. Fitted catch cans and this solves the problme of oil on the intercooler. Actually quite suprising about how much oil ends up in the catch cans that would otherwise be coating the intercooler

You can clean out your Intercooler by pouring in a load of brake cleaner and giving it a good shake around. Doing this a few times will get rid of a lot of clag!
Is there any knowledge of the RLS intercooler over our side of the pond? Anyone else on here got one as well as JDS?

I’m interested as there is significant ping-pong on lotustalk about actually how good it is and when reading all of that I can only think that the Forge for sale over here has never had any bad press yet.

It is possible though that the Forge just hasn’t been scrutinised to the same degree or that there are RLS haters in the USA over exegerating issues
A lot of the bad comments are from those promoting the charge cooler option. Have to agree that for higher powered modified Exiges that are being driven very hard on track or raced then the charge cooler is the better option, but expensive (2500 plus). I used my RLS for 2 years on my Exige that I only tracked (no road usage),drove it very hard on track days, some very very hot days and was very pleased with its performance. It will not add power but will reduce power loss due to heat soak

balboa, u have a pm

Whilst charge cooling is better in general I can tell you I won’t be spending 3k on an install.

I will simply get the VF A/A intercooler which sits below the left hand side scoop along with a new intake manifold. VF provides a Katana/MP62 upgrade kit for around 1500 and you get get 275+ bhp from it with an ECU remap.

For 1,800 you can get a chargecooler supplied and fitted by MMG…if you’re going to spend 1,500 you may as well do it properly.
