I’ve worked out why the rev drop dosen’t seem correct on the Quaife 3rd 4th 5th set that you can buy. It’s because the set is designed to be used with the ELISE PG1 1st and 2nd gear ratios. We have close ratio boxes with shorter 1st and 2nd gears so when you change into 3rd with the Quaife set the rev drop isn’t really right. Back to the drawing board then.

Just a thought but why not try to exchange your std Exige CR box with an Elise driver (with cash coming your way) then have the Elise PG1 box rebuilt with the Quaife 3/4/5 upgrade … There is bound to be an Elise driver interested in a CR box upgrade and you would get the ‘donor’ std box that you need plus a contribution towards the UCR upgrade kit.

What i’m really after is a helical 5 speed with the same ratio’s as the Quaife straight cut. The only other option is a 340R ucr box or a Lotus ucr box. I’ve got the gearbox out the car waiting. I guess I could ring Quaife and see if they could make me a limited edition box.
Please let us know if you manage to source a ucr. Im interested in doing this way more then modding/swapping the engine. Its the worst part of the package IMO.
Maybe if enough people want the same we can get Quaife to do a batch for us! Anyone else looking to improve their ratio’s?
We have done a mix and match of standard ratios to give a box that is inbetween an Exige box and a 340R box. Basically that is as good as you can get with standard Lotus Ratio’s. We use 1st to 4th from one box and 5th from another.
If you can source both boxes cheaply it is actually quite a cost effective way of getting a decent gearbox. It is only a couple of hours work to strip, swap the cogs and rebuild the gearbox.
