The problem I have at the minute is that unless in the wet I am struggling to feel where my car starts to slide and spin. I can catch some but not always feel it.
I’ve just bought myself a set of AD08RS for any future ‘monsoon days’ that we may get. I’m guilty of never actually trying a ‘road’ tyre on an Elise platformed car before… both of mine have been on ZZR’s pretty much exclusively so I may use the AD08’s on at least one dry day somewhere just to see how the car feels, to see if the threshold of grip comes down enough that I can actually have some fun!
The ZZR’s aren’t particularly scary though, I’ve never had the car just come out from under me with no warning.
I’ve got AD08RS as my wet-weather tyres, used them once at a dry Donington and it turns out they’re really good - for about 4 or 5 laps, then they got very ‘squirmy’. You’ve got more power, and an LSD, so you may be able to play with them a bit as the grip threshold lowers. I found them an exceedingly good tyre when all’s said and done - but the R888R is a damn site grippier and consistent in the dry, but in the wet they’re obviously much more frisky
I think that account probably adds up with what Andy has experienced. Where the AD08’s start “going off” on a session, something like a ZZR or R888 just hold their ground so a generally going to be more consistent over a session. Looking forward to trying my AD08’s really, first time running a different tyre, always like an opportunity to experiment.
Another trip back to Blyton with my good friends over at https://diamond-performance.co.uk/. I dont tire of this track as its quite technical and a good benchmarking track.
Today I had full confidence that my car would start after a trip to see SeriouslyLotus the day prior and John worked his magic on my electrics which have been causing me a headache for a while now.
I also changed the front damper to taking nan to physio spec ( C ) Fonzey where I am now running 10 clicks from hard both on front and rear. Once the fronts were upto temp I was amazed how much better it was turning in. More playing of settings ahoy I feel.
Just got back from a very enjoyable evening trackday sesh.
one 30min session and 3 lots of 20 minute sessions.
TBH in todays heat it was plenty! I tweaked my setting on the suspension slightly and found myself with a better setup than session 1. I had a mild spin ( 90 deg off forward ) and then adjusted the settings. It was like night and day. The mid corner bounce was gone and when I was trying to exit too fast all I got was slip. Keep the toe in and powerslid out.
I felt like Clarkson every time I did it. Even did a thumbs up for a photographer on a hairpin. It appears you dont need >500hp to drift when you want have have to have the letter C and 63 …
