Ahem, erm well, if you need to meet a 98db noise limit, you’ll need my 8incher My 7incher will comfortably meet a noisy day 105db limit.

Jim?
Didn’t we reckon the 8 incher wouldn’t fit in my rear end though? I know you were saying a guy in the US had managed it. To be honest if having a 7 incher excludes me from a few track days it’s no big loss and will save me a few pennies.
Looking forward to getting it next week and I’ll get Stevie M’s/ Phoenix address over to you soon.
Cheers
Nick

Nick - I think noisey days are actually the minority and getting less, upside is you should save alot of money

I know, Steve. Just have to go to Cadwell every week
Moving swiftly on…at present the 8"dia silencer only fits if you remove the rear grille section. Not everyone is keen on this of course, so I’ll be investigating clearances very shortly - certainly we might get away with just removing the heat-shielding behind the numberplate panel and still bringing the tailpipes out below the diffuser. I will be bringing out different rear grilles anyway (like the S2, with a single exhaust exit on the off-side).

I would be interested in what you describe. I want an exhaust that is well built, light, sounds good and is suitable for my supercharged car. However i want my car to look “original”. I like the side exit but do not want to loose the rear grill, i want it to look like it came from the factory with the side exit and a corresponding grill.
If i did this a neat blanking cover for the hole in my diffuser would also be nice
Jim,
If noise is not a concern and one wanted to keep the stock rear grilles, which version of your exhausts would you recommend for install on a Cup 240 car? Power/performance improvement,if possible, being the primary objective. BTW, the car came equipped from Lotus Sport with a sports cat – don’t know the manufacturer of the cat.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

The 7"dia would be fine then. It fits behind the rear grille and takes the thru-diffuser tailpipes. With the Supercharger install the exhaust note at lower revs is comparable to the Stg1 but it has a better howl in the second cam (IMHO )
Opening up the exhaust on a FI motor will always yield power gains - if the exhaust is a straight-thru design - not all of them are. Certainly there’s been some impressive gains, more with the De-cat pipe fitted. Also, with the increased heat from the Supercharger install, I believe other manufacturers are having problems with the silencer packing - I don’t.

Would there be any power benefit to your smaller cans, if LOUD is OK? This is only a track car for me and I’m not worried about any track imposed noise restrictions.

Well, I just vary the physical size of the silencer body to alter the noise output - bigger the can, the less noise. The core pipe size remains the same, so there’s no difference in power output between them. Get rid of the Cat for the most gain, with a fifth injector you don’t have any fuelling worries.

Yeh, that’s great - I’ve just despatched a consignment to Robert but I’ve got another to go soon. I’m going 100mph at the mo but barely keeping up with demand - which is good but …mustn’t grumble
I have a 2ubular ultra and an arqray and love them both.
But forget trackdays as they wont let you in the carpark.
The arqray is the loudest muver this side of a spitfire fighter plane. 242dynoed with decat. (single tip on exige GT)
make sure you run at least 98ron
I wont be trackdaying in the S anyway as i have gone and bought something sensible:

And will be towing it with the Exige
LOL
i tow it with my race van or my wifes jag if she will let me.
Done oulton park and cadwell and the thing is in a different league and was having a play with a juno last time out.
Went with a mate to oulton who has a supercharged honda Atom and it was much faster around the lap but struggled with it down straights.
