Exige as a daily car

Wait till you are the wrong side of 60 then it becomes REAL fun…

Better than sex, eh Clive?

Wave runner …you mean 35 then

Oh I wish…

Except I was still with the missus at 35 so scrap that idea

Hi, i am very interested in buying a lotus exige but was wondering if anyone has any experience with them as a daily car? It would be a regular car for me, going to work and using it for every day tasks.

Any advice/experience would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

J

I’d have to say no; the Exige is unsuitable for “normal” daily drives. However, if your “normal” routes consist of fast, empty, wide, twisty, billiard table smooth roads that are free from speed cameras then, yes, it might just work.

I think the answer is - try one (from one or more dealers, if you can!) for as long as you are able, & make your own mind up

Some peeps, like myself, used our S1 Exiges as everyday cars for months/years, whilst some peeps will only use their S2s for weekend stuff ie there’s no straightforward answer

At my age there is no contest…Pass the blue pills someone

after drivin 2 years S1 Elise and 1 year S1 Exige, I say ‘yes, it is possible, and more than that: It’s great fun’

with a few constraints:

-as it gets pretty hot inside in summer, you might feel comfortable to have an extra chemise with you if you drive to an appontment or meeting (except if you drive to a wet t-shirt contest )
-you might need a few extra minutes to change shoes every time you get out of the car if you can’t show up in a suit with sneakers
-It’s helpful to wash hands more often as usual as you’ll never get this car 100% clean (oil, abrasion from break pads etc. etc.)
-depends on where you show up, people might get jealous when they see the car (and judge you just because of the car)
-If you expect snow in Winter (and we do in Switzerland, sometimes), the Exige wouldn’t be my first choice. it’s just too low… Last winter I couldn’t even leave my garage a few days because of the snow…

besides of this, it’s huge fun for me to drive the car every day - I love it! Still I’ve decided to follow benjas advice and got a crappy daily driver - as my new job is just 6km away and I don’t want to use the car for such short distaces only…

(Might be even more easy to drive the Exige as a daily driver if it’s an S2 with A/C etc. )

That’s actually a really good idea - with a car of this nature, a quick drive around a dealer favoured test track will not really give you the full picture.
