Yeah, a chap by the name of Bollinger i believe (not the champagne though). It was displayed at the Brands Hatch 40th celebration in 1998, as it was flown over from California especially for the Goodwood FoS. It won best car in show at Brands, but never ran too well on the day sadly (driven by the owners son). I was with Banks that weekend & it was a real priveledge to get so close to such a rare car. The (then) Japanese owner of the other 62 came over to take pics etc, as his 62 was in bits. A great weekend.

I have some pics tucked away i could get scanned & posted here if anyone is interested?

IIRC was that not the reason for the sad demise of a previous Europa in your care??You’re like a one-man historic Lotus destruction facility dude

LMAO - I just knocked a corner off that one! It’s as good as new - in fact I bumped into a new owner of it at a show, and he didn’t even know it had been fixed (until I told him!) :astonished:

It may take a while until I see them again, but I’ll take some photos and ask some more questions next trackday I see them at

Thanks for the link,Tim. What a car. The 62 had somehow been erased from my memory. Can’t think why. It’s glorious.

Great link! Some good stories about the 62 - good pic of it on the Bollingers driveway!

+1 on that

Front end reminds me of the Chevron B8 from certain angles - another fine-looking car!

Interesting

I thought I saw a similarity to the Chevron B8, too

Ironically, it was the B8 that ‘killed’ the Lotus 47… the 47 first ran on boxing day 1966, and was then sold by Lotus Components for the '67 season; it was quite competitive in the right hands. Then Chevron produced the B8 for '68 which sounded the death knell for the 47. By '69 most were stripped of the good bits (lotus twincam engine and FT200 box) and turned into road cars - for which they were very unsuited!
