LOVE that Capri - I had loads of them when younger - even drove a Zakspeed once!
First driving experience was a Mk 4 Triumph Spitfire sliding like hell with the adcverse rear camber in the wet when I was 17… Just managed to keep it away from the kerb.
For me it was c. 1976 / 77 driving back from Glasgow with my dad on the A66 from Penrith to the Scotch Corner.
My dad came up behind a 911 Turbo in our biege escort estate (nice ) and he over took it. The bloke in the 911 saw this young lad gorping at his car and for the next 20 miles or so the guy allowed my dad to over take him, then he’d floor it and shoot past us, he drop back again, we’d over take it again and then he would come absolutely flying past
End with him pulling along side, beeping his horn, giving us a wave and and he was gone !
One of the reasons why I’ve always loved 911s - shame all 911 drivers aren’t as cool as this bloke was.
Thinks back to my first car, Mk1 Pre facelift 3000GT Capri in Orange. I owned several others over the next few years. Also had a 1600 Sport Mk2 Escort running a 1680 with twin 40’s. I remember several times jumping out of that to open the bonnet to put out the flames, it had a habit of “coughing” when cold, if it stalled you could almost guarantee it was on fire
