Great seeing everyone, makes days like these twice as good when familiar faces turn up

Shame I had continuos trouble with the noise police which restricted my running somewhat (half throttle and 6.5k rpm) on the other hand it did save me about 60 of fuel, but i’m sure that is not the point!
Great to see everyone as always,
Bring on boothy’s day where there are no noise police

Just as well !!! Got black flagged with my ‘noise friendly’ exhaust - apparently I was Mr Noisy
Great day but just got those PTDB - post trackday blues
You know the ones when you have to clean your ‘hire’ car and work out the cost of the day - 78 miles on a tank - ouch !!!
Had a couple of really good runs with a certain Mr Fox - for a NA car it’s fookin quick - it’s either the driver, the gearbox or the diet it’s been on or a bit of all 3
I too have some great footage - 23mins for one of our little tussels !!!
why ???

He probably soiled himself!
Another good day and as JF says its twice as much fun when some of the usual suspects are out to play too. As usual great to see everyone and thanks for lunch Pesk.
Big thanks to Jonny L (BAT) for being so flexible (again). I was late and he suggested I move to do the afternoon/evening session instead. Top lad,…thanks Jonny.
The car was going well. I’m still trying to recalibrate my brain and build up my confidence in brakes that actually work properly. Had a couple of good sessions but overall not best pleased with my driving as I was pretty ragged and inconsistent. Its not where I want to be and know that I need more time behind the wheel and some tuition.
There was a real mixed bag of cars/experience on circuit from total corporate away-day noobs in BAT caterhams to Ferrari 458Cup cars having a shakedown. Quite a few ‘7’ type cars out too and a couple of real quick ones (the pale blue one and Scott Fitzgerald in particular). My car seems pretty well matched to some of the R400’s and I was having a real good time with one who was keeping me honest until another red flag stopped play
I was on my tod in the evening but got chatting to a nice chap and his son in a Ferrari 599. The older guy was trying to get into trackdays and that evening was his first time on circuit! I took the Dad out in my car and then his son took me out in the 599. Man that is a large heavy car but she can certainly pick up her skirts and have a canter on the straights. Gotta love that kinda reciprocal thing on trackdays.
To start with the evening was proper mental as everyone tried to get some time on circuit. I came in and let it calm down, and as I ventured out again there was another stoppage. I was second in the queue and after quickly dispatching the guy in front had 3-4 laps of the circuit to myself where I really seemed to get in the groove
Following that and with the car still in good shape I elected to miss mad last 30mins and head south. I got chatting with the guy that owned the red 458 that had sat in the paddock all day as I filled up and the M1 was made slightly less dull by being in convoy with him for most of the way home.
Knackered today (but not as knackered as my 48’s) and looking forward to being able to get out again soon.
Nice write up Ben, sounds like a good day !
Need to get back on track before the summer passes me by! - work is hectic at the moment though!
You were very quick down the start/finish straight(with late braking for Redgate), Ben
Top write up Ben, I feel compelled to say a few more words. This was the first time Ive really be able to exploit the full potential (maybe 90%) of the JSR recommended Kaaz gearset. Second is no long used coming onto the pit straight whitest 5th gets an early look in down the Craners and after Starkeys on the way up to McLeans. There is plenty of grunt in 5th, actually theres plenty of grunt across every ratio…its bloody brilliant . My driving was a bit erratic a times usually caused by missing the odd heel and tow which Im blaming new footwear on and maybe a little bit more rushed swapping cogs, like Ben says nothing some good tuition wont sort out.
I have a clip here with Chris and myself having some fun, shame about the traffic but great fun nevertheless. Nice driving Chris, you were braver then me, I was convinced that Ferrari was dropping oil which made me a little cautious. In fact it broke down just before Regate on 15mins (later found out oil issues )…doesnt seem like you were bothered…nutter! Still there was no passing you mate…
Good day
Cheers Rob - putting the hammer down on the straight bits, I’m awesome at that
Reflecting on it post event, my main problem is stringing together Redgate, Craners, Hollywood and Old-Hairpin. Get it right and it all flows and you carry loads of speed out of Old Hairpin which you capitalise on as you go flat in 5th up the hill.
My typical lap however, was go in too hot to Redgate, run wide (very wide sometimes , very very wide occasionally ), balls it up down Craners, go too hot in to Old Hairpin and run wide again resulting in piss poor exit speed up the hill. Going in too hot appears to be a common theme here
Ho hum, being able to get a good idea where you’re going wrong is all part of the learning experience even though its not much use now sitting at my desk
Enjoyed your write up too Jonny - cheers for that

Yep a Chevron hit them, ended up like that black Exige last year albeit square on up the chuff
Supercharger…
Less than an hour earlier the same car had gone into the gravel and ripped his front clam off…muppet

Do you video your sessions Ben ? I sometimes find it really useful to go back and watch…easier to pick up a bad line or entry watching yourself back.
The other thing I have learnt lots from (although it does take some time) is to use a DL1 and analyse the data afterwards… I’m by no means an expert using it, but it’s great for seeing where you are losing time.
Yeah thanks Dave, I’m thinking a DL1 and a GoProHD should be on my birthday list. I’m pretty patient and analytical so I think it would help me a lot.
Nice video Mr Fox
Wouldn’t think you were 60bhp down on me from the video
I need to grow a set of balls and change into 5th down the craners
The only problem with looking at your own DL1 traces is you start thinking ‘the data says I’m being a wuss and braking too early…’ but when you’re in the car that’s the last thing your thinking !!
Running out of things to spend on the car?

Yeah right! I would have no problem burning 10k if I had it.
No avoiding that the car is already mighty quick so I take yer point.
