For what it’s worth, I have no idea what times I was doing on the day, but did review some video footage yesterday and think I know where I can improve a fair bit…
Got some good footage of you too Rob (although my bloody rear view mirror is in the way)!
[color:“blue”] it was clarified that benchmarking yourself is also acceptable - so you can effectively compare your own laptimes from one track day to the next - provided no-one sees you doing it, or is aware that this benchmarking is going on. [/color]

But to be honest, that’s just nonsense isn’t it ? - it’s acceptable to benchmark yourself, but you can’t tell anyone you’ve done it ???
If you have instruction to make you faster on the day, then surely he’s benchmarking you on the day, which is actually far worse !

Not nonsense, more like common sense - a very basic feature of trackdays is that there are not there for testing. If you want to do that go to a test day.
I don’t see any benefit in trying to be clever with words and argue the point - you can only loose if you have to end up talking to an insurance company; and the fact is that you will invalidate all insurance that may well have been available to others to make a claim against, i.e., anyone doing this is, at the very least, being extremely selfish.
I was referring to the statement being nonsense, not the act of benchmarking. It states that it’s acceptable to benchmark yourself provided no-one sees you doing it ?
I go on trackdays to enjoy them and hopefully to improve my driving whilst being safe and not causing danger to other people - human nature dictates that we want to get better at things we do…it’s also why people take instruction at track days.
If you’re saying that reviewing video footage in an attempt for me to improve myself is being selfish, I strongly disagree with you…but will happily discuss over a beer sometime.
There’s a big difference between testing/racing and trying to improve yourself.
Dave - I believe that we can probably agree on more than we will disagree on, so it’s a marginal debate that you are correct in stating is probably best had over a beer - I’ll even buy
