They were excllent and great value for money. I had a really good look over lunch and chatted with the chaps there. I spent the equivalent on my Exige and found myself a little . They were very quick, some laps were faster than me and some laps were not so but they did have slicks, sequential gears and three different drivers… in the white one anyway. And I for most had a passenger. All in all I agree with Pesky, that car is way better spent doe then on a 211 imho!
p.s. Replacement engines cost 3k, replacement gearbox is 6.5k
So a Clio cup is as fast as a 211? - in the same drivers hands I find that pretty incredulous
I guess we’ll find out his year once the racing starts. The thing is Simon, there is a big big difference bewteen a proper race car and a road-going track car. You could never drive a Clio Cup on the road. It just wouldn’t hack it at all. But there is little better for the money in terms of on track speed and fun.
There have been a few Clio Cups in Autosport being sold at about 18 unraced. That represents fantastic value for the level of performance.
The rebuilds of engine, gearbox and diff are expensive, but as long as you are a aware of that going into one I doubt anyone would regret getting one of these.
They are cheap on tyres too as you spend most of the lap on three wheels
I saw the one over at Dans and yes at first you think what a bargain… But then you start to think about it a little more and its not that cheap for what it is…
I have no doubts it is good value for money as an out and out RACE CAR and ultimately that is what it should be doing. Trackdays would become boring and to race one in the clio cup you are required to have less than half a brain (more like a demolition derby than a race!!).
Ner I’m happy getting my head wet and running in LOT thankyou…
ps. unofficial time around croft in a 2-11 is about 1.31/2 ish
Regarless fo how quick they are, they are FWD and part of the fun of trackdays, for me anyway is hanging the arse end out on the corners…
If you want to go really quick but an ex touring car…
Plus trialering also pissed me off hence the lotus compromise- there isn’t a better car suited to track work yet can be run on the road- caterhams too compromised unless you live on a track imo!
Changing the theme ever so slightly, was looking at part-exing my 111S (at the dealer purchased from) for a Black 2004 Exige till i was told of the 5k loss in 9 months.
Anyway have been looking at the Corsa VXR 192ps six speed box FEFD lots of fun with Lotus input into the ride & handling.
