Correct me if I,m wrong ,but I think I saw Alonso avoid a barrier by controlling lockup ?
To me , the ability to choose when and how to apply brakes is fundamental .
Each to their own of course …
Spose im old and my Hillman Imp just taught me that way
Just curious to know if your suspension was “standard” or not when you had that problem ?
In other words is that an ABS problem or actually a set up issue ?
My feeling is with ABS you just leave you foot hard on once it chimes in … if not the second application does nothing which is counter intuative unless you practise it
[quote=jfk]My thoughts on ABS …
I’ll try to keep it short …
If all goes terribly wrong (as it does) … The ability to lock all 4,s is a godsend,and will see an out of shape car slide to a stop harmlessly…
Throw in ABS however and that ability is lost … If you lose it proper and are pointing at the barrier then you will hit it …
…
That’s my reason for pulling the ABS fuse on track /road…
…spose I’m talkin crap !

Not crap at all…
When I was involved in the Porky cup with a 944 turbo, one of the allowed modifications was a pressure switch to overide the abs. Undernormal braking the abs acted as normal, but if you stamped on the brake pedal( read that as shit yourself) the pressure switch turned off the abs, this allowed a slide/spin to be frozen if the need was there. once the brake was released the abs was back on again.
The switch was a porky approved and supplied motorsport part
Quick update on an old thread. I managed to get my S2 back on a track with new fluid, braided hoses, Pagid pads etc. Brakes are now fine and have plenty of feel (but different to an S1 Exige). It was the first time it had been out as a series of stupid faults always caused the S2 to be unavailable for booked track day service.
When it was out of service I used my VHPD powered S1 and I can report, on a back to back test, that even with the red line set at 6K on the S1 it is quite a chunk faster than the S2 (NA), mainly because it has more low down pull. On the other hand, the S2 is just turn the key and go, the S1 is always a worry and goes quite slowly on three cylinders when oil is dribbling into the spark plug hole.
