I would think ā€œnoā€ 'cos it would be like using red diesel in a road vehicle, ie. duty differences would lead to an HMRC wrist-slapping! If youā€™re caught, that is (and the colourā€™s a giveaway)ā€¦

So itā€™s definitely a criminal offence on the road, & possibly classed as ā€œcheatingā€ in competitive motorsport then?

Itā€™s definitely classed as cheating in motor sportā€¦

Bugga!

Doesnā€™t stop use in a trackday only car though?

Only cheating when you get caught!!!
Probably a little more than creative interpretation thoughā€¦

Dave

Thatā€™s the one thing about motorsport that really pisses me off - the cheating that goes on at ALL levels, & I donā€™t just mean rule bending, or pushing the envelope. Some years ago, in the Mid Engined Series a certain person was using race fuel in his Elise - quite a distinctive odour that stuff produces! Eventually, his car was burnt to a crisp, so that was one less cheat to worry about for the guys playing by the rules.

Itā€™s always interesting to read the disciplinary hearing results published by the MSA - cheating & punch ups prevail!

Where is the pleasure/honour in winning by cheating???

Used to annoy me when I was competing regularly in the UK (some years ago, now). Interestingly it was far less prevalent in bigger series, eg. I did some FIA GT and GrandAm in 2001-03.

Whether that was because teams had more to lose or because the seriesā€™ had full-time regular scrutineers who got to know the cars so could spot changes, itā€™s hard to sayā€¦or maybe the rule-bending was juts far more subtle so I didnā€™t see it!!!

Thatā€™s quite a penalty if you are caught

Was on a trackday, although the irony wasnā€™t lost

I agree, cheating in motorsport is very wide spread. The thing that annoyed me, was when you did well, the first thing out of everyoneā€™s mouth ā€œoh he must be cheatingā€

When I raced my S1, because it was turbo charged, so quite easy to fiddle with, everyone was convinced I was taking the piss, and I genuinely wasnā€™t all of the time.

Will never forget at Brands, the truck from the fuel supplier turning up, and shouting over the paddock ā€˜Iā€™ve got some 102 octance race fuel for a Mr. X here, where do you want it?ā€™ When we were all supposed to be running pump fuel!

Much running around and red faces ensued!

ahhhā€¦I think there were some fairly dramatic photos of that incidentā€¦was it at Bedford?

lol at SeanB and Mr Pesky who have turboā€™s and super chargers bolted onto their none K series engines! Thatā€™s most definitely cheating.

P.S (n/a rocks)

Iā€™m afraid that if I were competing, Iā€™d strictly play by the letter, & the spirit of the rules to which Iā€™d signed up to. Perhaps Iā€™m just not the competitive type?

Genuine mistakes can happen - Evosal is not really a ā€œCheating Northern Monkeyā€, despite getting confused about acceptable bhp

I used to buy 205 litre barrels of Toluene and mix it 50:50 with petrol some years back for my Supra. I had to mix far less in winter because it was a right sod to start due to vaporisation issues. But once it warmed up a bit it really moved, talk about cheap octane boosterā€¦

It worked out to about ĆÆĀæĀ½1 a gallon for the Toluene and I burned several barrels of it. Of course I never used it on the roadā€¦

Phil

Lol, the confusion was between power at the hubs and flywheel power, Nigel told cpl racing it was 350 at the hubs.

Thats what happens when you leave a numpty in charge of your race prep

How many people have gone off to google toluene!! I thought it was the stuff they put in Red Bull

Toluene is one of the 'Tā€™s in TNTā€¦
