ignition maps
scalars
cam switchover
learning disable
multiple maps (though i dont have a way of doing the external select yet)
working on
can bus , extra info, realtime mapping etc
just mapping out the rest of the tables i haven’t identified already.
unfortunately it requires removing the memory chip and resoldering it (or socketing), which in itself for the right person is not that difficult, i watched one guy do it in about 10 seconds for each, takes me a bit longer…
working on the reflash without removing the chip too.
it might be a usa based mod, but its british at heart
Why do you need to remove the chip? Do you have the ID for it as, if its not programmable out the box then it’s different to other Lotus ECUs?
Removal/reading/resoldering is a bastard cos its a TSOP package with 0.5mm pitch iirc.
Have you managed to .BIN the memory…? Or indeed, know any more about the hardware spec?
Cheers,
Ben.
yeah warranty = ta ta

Well the honest to gods truth is i no longer have a 2005 ECU anymore (Sold it bought an exige which has a diff ecu ) so i stopped working on the flashing side directly, its relatively simple to change the chip. I have all the equipment needed for it , but i just farm it out to a guy who specialises in swapping out TSOPs, lotus owners on the whole are cheap so not many get sold so its not a big deal.
plus the non swap flashing is painfully slow and i wanted a socketed chip so i could do quick changes.
other lotus ECUs used GM MEMCALs so you could just program the chip. (I don’t know about the S1 elise ECU though,a s i never got a chance to take mine apart)
So to answer your question, pure laziness
I’m well beyond the .bin part, i’ve rewritten sections of the code, maps etc.
i’m still playing with the flash , but there are reasons i don’t really want to fiddle with the J2534 flash, i’m working on a way to do the map updates over the CAN bus instead.
its just a part time thing for me, all sales are basically done at less than cost. I stopped doing it for a while, but my pal frank got a supercharged elise/exige and piggybacks are crap, so i picked it up again.
I ckecked A/F ratios and am running 14.5 at 80mph cruise and at full boost 10.5 putting 225+ at the rear wheels in 100deg S.Ca canyons…I put on 175mi. yesterday just for fun speeds fron 35 to 145mph no sweat…
