Re: Electronics guru needed

Not too familiar with your specific Exige model. Presumably though, as the system is variable, it has some type of control to set the amount of slip?

If so - and that is what's disconnected currently - then the speedo is unlikely to be receiving any signal and hence isn't displaying what it should.

Re: Starter Motor S1

For the benefit of anyone else who may experience the same problem in the future, was it the pinion/lever part that needed replacing? Or was the cause something else?

Re: Nitron Springs - how long should they last?

I'd avoid anything mineral-based or in a spray can. Mineral oils can affect plasticisers and spray can propellants aren't great either. If you just want to protect the threads on spring seats, I use a bit of ordinary 'red rubber' grease - the stuff for dust caps, etc. on master cylinders. It doesn't...

Re: Nitron Springs - how long should they last?

You mention that you sprayed them with a rust preventative when they were new - possibly this has affected the flexibility of the original paint coating so, as the springs have flexed, the paint has cracked and allowed water to get underneath? You could have them blasted and powder coated, as they s...

Re: Any interest in non Lotus builds?

Agree with Andy on this one - with the budget you have, a Megane would be a good choice at the right spec. Probably far less chance of getting a thrashed one than with a Clio, too.

Re: Any interest in non Lotus builds?

Front wheel drive cars will understeer inherently, so you can: a) Throw it in early and try to flick it round b) Trail brake to the apex then power out c) Brake deep, turn in late and square off If you're not 100% going with a Clio, what about an MX5? Cheap, rear wheel drive, etc. Early Clio 172's a...

Andy, you need one of these:

As a serial Clio owner, I think I might just qualify for one myself 👍
